Virginia Dal Magro solo show, Wild Mazzini Data Art Gallery, Turin
curated by Giorgio Bena

Virginia Dal Magro's work questions our relationship with knowledge of the world and its geographical representation through a refined aesthetic interpretation.
The artist places at the center of his work the formal outcomes that may arise from the interaction between the graphic definition of a technical data and its contamination with imperfection (digitally generated by the glitch of the data itself), identifying, through a methodical research of information gaps in our system of description and representation of the world, to transform them into formal graphic errors that produce new visual scenarios.
The visitor is therefore surrounded by a mass of information that describes an absence of information: an iteration that generates a conceptual short circuit, a representation system that depicts the flaws in a representation system.
Virginia Dal Magro's work therefore brings a conceptual contribution in a language dominated by technique, materially representing a possibility of an alternative approach. In fact, the title of the exhibition refers, adding an element of doubt, to one of the error messages that Google Maps gives as a response when the user is faced with a place that is not mapped or reported, an example of the shared perception in our society that every void must somehow be filled, that the unknown is a problem to be solved. On the contrary, the artist explores with these works, although different from each other, the significant possibilities of the absence of data. Virginia Dal Magro invites us to consider error, the unknown and imperfection as an opportunity rather than a problem.
