“Design as an act of devotion: to the material, to the creative process, to the craft of designing itself.”
This is the focus of "Magnificat. Alchemy and devotion in new design", the exhibition curated by Paolo Casicci for Milan Design Week 2025.
A selection of designers, artists and companies that operate in that space of authorial operations which is the constellation of Italian independent design.
“A scene in which project and art totally merge with the biographical stories of authors and protagonists, to give life, as in the time of the historical avant-gardes, to a personal repertoire made up of highly refined experiments and new materials, of artefacts in which the most advanced artisanal component meets thought and becomes a vision of the world, copywriting in the form of an object.”
It is following this curatorial vision that I have chosen to present Lockwerk Coffee Table, my first ever product and object-manifesto, which embodies my "minimal radicalism" approach in the purest and most original form.
A definition that expresses the desire to propose a critical approach which, despite its contradictions and limits, aims to question some stereotypes and idiosyncrasies of self-produced and artisanal design, using the minimalist language not as a necessity but as a choice and a critical premise.
The objective remains to create furnishings with a strong authorial character and a unique and recognizable personality that take into consideration elements (such as logistics and reproducibility) typical of the industrial product. The ambition is to explore a different operational possibility that acts as a bridge between these two design methodologies. A clear and distinctive design vision, which is found in the new Echo Mirror 01, presented as an absolute preview for Magnificat and which continues the path undertaken with previous works.
The Giano Lounge Tables, designed for Veniston, were also presented within the exhibition.
A dialogue with the new composite material from Veniston, created from rubble recovered from building demolition processes.
